Sitting on the soulful, R&B side of the trio’s sound, ‘Bonds Like These’ brings C.Tappin to the forefront, pairing his warm, soulful vocals with Rhodes, live bass and an understated groove. The track reflects on lifelong friendship, family and the bonds that endure as lives, priorities and responsibilities change around us. There’s a lot of the trio’s own history wrapped up in the song. Turt, Slim and C.Tappin have known each other since childhood, and ‘Bonds Like These’ looks back across those shared years while considering the values they hope to pass on to the next generation. Eight years in the making, ‘Lightworks’ sees the trio move beyond the sample-led foundations of their previous work and embrace fully live instrumentation, bringing together jazz, hip-hop, soul and R&B across their most ambitious collaborative project to date. ‘Lightworks’ arrives November 6th via DeepMatter Records.
